This week’s question comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

I know I’m blocking myself in some way because I don’t seem to be attracting more clients that want to pay me my fees. I hesitate raising them for fear that I will push more people away. What do I do to attract the clients that will pay me my fees and be eager to do so? Should I lower them?

Answer:

Oh, this is such a hot topic and my initial response to your question is this. Whether you lower your fees, keep them the same, or raise them, your problem in not attracting clients that are willing to pay your fees won’t be solved by you only doing something about your fees.

Now, having said that, let me explain. What you draw to yourself from the outer world is directly related to what is going on in your inner world, your inner world of beliefs and past conditioning, etc. Use your results as feedback to discover what you currently believe is true about your worth and your value in the world of business.

The truth is, any attempt to change your fees without up leveling your perception of your own worthiness and your belief that you do deserve to make great money for what you offer, is a difficult and disappointing road to follow. You will continue to experience more of the same, regardless of the actions that you take. Please understand, I am not saying that you shouldn’t raise your fees, because you probably need to. I am saying that your inner work is essential if you actually want to receive your increased fees and attract your ideal clients.

Here’s what will work better for you. It will save you lots of time, and it will protect you from a losing potential income going forward.


Your income is directly related to how you perceive your worth and what you think you deserve to make. Just the idea of raising your fees will bring up what you believe about the value of what you offer and whether or not you should be paid well, (what you deserve). This is very common, particularly for women in the helping professions, doing their soulful work. This dilemma does, however, show up in all areas of business.

So what needs to change, and how do you do that?

  • First, you must know what is currently true for you. You have to become aware of your current beliefs about your value in relationship to the marketplace, what rules you hold deeply about how to make money, and whether you feel you deserve to have money or not.
  • Second, you have to decide that you are done minimizing your value and that you are so done believing that it’s your job to take care of those who need your help at all costs, including your income. In other words, are you willing to let go of attaching your value from saving others from their plight? ( This is common for many women.)
  • Third, be mindful of the Truth about who you are. You are here for a very important reason that not only serves you and the people you love, it serves the greater good of all. This is true for all of us, regardless if we are working in business or not.

You are constantly growing and being called to become the grandest version of YOU. Your desire to be paid well for your service to others is coming from the Truth of who you are, a powerful, loving, creative, and important spirit having a human experience. Honor your heart’s calling by changing your mind to align with the Truth of YOU, rather than continuing to align with your old, fearful conditioning.

I invite you to stop devaluing yourself by giving too much without allowing the appropriate compensation to come back to you. This violates your true spirit, which is why you feel frustrated right now. I believe you know in your heart what is right for you.

It serves others well to value the transformation and results they receive in working with you by generously compensating you. This is really an investment in themselves, not in you.
