Can you imagine your business or professional practice thriving and you living the lifestyle of your dreams? This may seem simple enough, yet many of my clients have great difficulty with this. I am not talking about creating goals. I am referring to something much more dynamic than what your reasoning mind can produce. Imagine seeing yourself in action, feeling the joy of working with your clients, being paid premium dollars, eagerly inviting people to work with you, and feeling confident that what you offer is awesome, so much so, that you can hardly wait to talk to the next person! Oh my, doesn’t that sound fabulous!

Is this your experience of selling or marketing your services or products? If not, would you like to kick this up a few notches or maybe 100? Perhaps you are like many entrepreneurs and business owners, myself included, who love the aspect of our business wherein we provide our services and/or products. Yet, when our clients complete, move on, or dwindle away, then what? Yes, we all know the answer to this one, don’t we? We face the inevitable task of engaging in the sales and marketing aspect of our business or professional practice. If fear and anxiety surround your marketing and selling efforts, you most likely are not consistent and systematic with your process, therefore, you are sabotaging your wealth!

It is not uncommon, in fact, it’s what I highly suggest, to hone in and improve your sales and marketing techniques and systems. Having said that however, how many sales and marketing courses have you taken over the years? Perhaps you have books, manuals, and CD’s outlining what you need to do, yet are you doing what you know to do? For many people, the answer is, “not really.” If this is true for you, then you must look deep inside yourself and discover the limitations that are keeping you from valuing your work with others. You must become aware of what keeps you from feeling confident that you deserve to be paid extremely well for what you provide. It becomes a mindset issue, not a technique issue, which is where many entrepreneurs and business owners typically get stuck.

Creating a mindset that allows you to feel confident about the worth of your services and products often requires letting go of the old beliefs and habits that come from “not feeling good enough.” If you suspect this fear is relentlessly driving you to undervalue and over deliver your services, you’re actually not alone. Having suffered with this the greater part of my life, I am very aware of the damages it can make to your financial bottom line, the toll it takes on your physical body and your energy, not to mention the burnout and resentment that ensue over time.

So, how do you let go of your old mindset of I’m not good enough and embrace “Deservability”?

  • Tell yourself the truth about your feelings and negative beliefs that suggest that you are not good enough. This is the first place to start. Admit what you are doing to yourself.
  • Drop all of your justifications that support you in giving too much away for free; the temptation to keep adding more, and helping people with free services that you should be charging for.
  • Deal directly with your guilt and anxiety rather than engage in activities that try to alleviate these uncomfortable feelings. Breathe into the energy and calm down.
  • Declare who you must be to honor your work, talents, and gifts in the realm of business and money. i.e., I declare I am a gifted professional who honors my brilliant service in the world of business by receiving premium dollars for what I give and for what my clients receive.

Wealth Practice # 37 – Deservability

  1. Write down 10 ways that you’re giving away too much of your energy, i.e., time, money, etc.
  2. Begin with the most damaging energy/money leak and stop it. Set boundaries for your time, convert free work into potential services, etc.
  3. Write down how making these changes will positively impact your life, i.e. your energy levels, self esteem, finances, relationships, etc.

Remember, we are what we practice.

Keep wealth as a priority and remember why you want to be wealthy.
