There are so many clichés and beliefs about love and $$$. “Money is the root of all evil, people with money don’t care about others.” I’m sure you have heard many of these ideas through the years, and more. Perhaps you believe some of them to be true.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I am writing about the essential need to develop a loving relationship with money if you want to sustain financial success. Have you ever considered that you already have a relationship with money, good or bad?

I submit that we live our life in relationship because we are connected to everything; therefore, we are in relationship with everything, including $$$. This being true, wouldn’t it make sense to establish a good relationship, particularly if you want to do what you love and live the lifestyle you dream about?

So, how do you know if you have a good relationship with money? There are a number of ways you can tell. Here are a few of the important ones:

  • Do you have substantial savings and investments for your future?
  • Are you paid premium dollars for work that feeds your soul?
  • Is there enough $$$ to support the lavish lifestyle that YOU want to enjoy?
  • Are business opportunities knocking at your door?

If you’re not answering yes to these questions, please consider that your relationship needs to change, that love and gratitude need to be added right away. So, how exactly do you begin to change your relationship with money? I have three (3) key elements that are vital to all relationships if you want them to grow. Money is no different; it is energy.

  1. Love pays attention. Pay attention to your inflow of money. Make a note on a monthly calendar as to how much you receive every day in the form of a check, cash, or gifts. Yes, it all counts, every penny. You will soon discover how you feel about money. Are you grateful when it comes in, or do you feel resentful when it doesn’t? Begin paying grateful attention to your money every day. You’ll begin seeing it coming into your life more consistently.
  2. Love wants to give. Are you holding back and not wanting to release your money because you are fearful there won’t be enough? This is scarcity thinking at its best. Instead, open the flow of energy and invest in yourself and your business. Be generous with others that have given to you. By letting go of holding on tight to your money, it will keep the energy of money circulating in your life. $$$ will come back to you multiplied. (There is a Universal Law of Circulation and a Law of Increase)
  3. Love brings meaning and purpose to life. As you think about your relationship with money, define a meaningful purpose that you want for your relationship. This is very different than making a list of all the things you want money to buy. By defining a meaning and purpose for your relationship, you tap into a greater power of love that enhances life and makes a beneficial difference for you and for others. Doesn’t that feel different than using money to get what you want?

This requires a mindset shift from just using this ‘thing’ called money to getting what you want; it requires you to become a caring and meaningful partner. Which type of relationship would you rather be in?
