Anytime you decide to go for your dreams, meet a new goal, or have a better experience, you are going to “hit the wall.” I don’t mean to sound negative. This is actually very good news. If you didn’t hit the wall, you wouldn’t be going beyond where you have ever been before.

The problem is, most of us don’t know when we’ve hit our wall. I told you about me hitting the wall. At first, I just believed all of the ‘stuff’ that my fearful, doubtful mind was telling me. I retreated and allowed the excuses of the day to justify my aimless activities.

There are (3) three signs that you have hit the wall.

  1. Retreating – this is the Flight version of the survival mode. You might find that you’re telling yourself what you want doesn’t matter. Your old beliefs that suggest you don’t deserve to have what you want or that you shouldn’t have financial success will seem true. Your Saboteur will have a great story for you about how greedy and ungrateful you are to want more. You might hear how unloving and unspiritual it is to want more money or to have desires in the first place.
  2. Pushing yourself – this is the Fight version of the survival mode. You force yourself into action. You’re very busy running around. (Just like Susie) You keep yourself consumed with busy work. Most likely, you do what you’ve always done. You become easily distracted with other people’s problems that don’t relate to what you need to be focusing on – serving clients, solving their problems, and building wealth.
  3. Paralysis – this is the Freeze version of the survival mode. Now you are just confused. You don’t know which way to turn or what to do. You find yourself involved in mindless activities which bring you no reward or satisfaction. You feel bored and you have a lackluster attitude about everything in your life. Addictions such as, emotional eating, needless shopping, or excessive drinking seem very appealing.

What is the most important step to going beyond this dilemma?

The very first step you need to take in going beyond your wall is to know and admit that you have hit your wall. No kidding. Telling the truth about where you are is essential for any breakthrough. Once you realize you have hit your wall and you recognize the survival strategies you are engaged in, you won’t take your negative behaviors and self talk so seriously. You’ll know you have hit your boundaries in how far you believe you can go. You really need to ‘get that!’ I did. It is very humbling.

The best way out is in! Transformation is such an incredible paradox. This isn’t the pretty answer, I know. However, it is the answer that works. It stops the resistance that you have to yourself, to others, and to the situation you find yourself in.

Just remember this – being aware of and having no resistance to your self-doubting beliefs and limitations, together with a conscious awareness of your reactive, unconscious behaviors = no wall, period! It works.

Breakthrough Practice:

  1. Discover your wall by first identifying the behaviors you find yourself engaged in. Write them down and identify them as reactions to your limits.
  2. What are your limits? How far can you go? Notice where you stop. This represents your subconscious boundaries. Unknown and unnoticed, you will not go beyond these limits, no matter how hard you try!
  3. Identify what is important to you. Be clear and be honest. Write this down. Make it a priority and take the next most important action that your gut tells you to take. Keep it simple and keep it small. Give the energy a chance to build momentum. It will naturally!
